Editor ⧫ Author ⧫ Teacher ⧫ Podcaster
Hi! I'm Dr. Sørina Higgins, a Consulting Editor, Writer, English Teacher, Podcaster, and award-winning Scholar of the Inklings and modernist literature with 22 years’ experience helping writers and readers like you develop their ideas and interpret books by others. I'm eager to assist you with any stage of your writing project or inspire you to follow your passion for great literature.
Writers, wherever your project exists on its adventure from idea to publication, I would love to help you! Perhaps you need a beta reader for the draft of a novel or a rigorous reviser of an academic book project. Maybe you’d like to streamline your syntax or up your grammar game. Do you want a Virgilian guide in the dark forest of distribution? I’ll walk you through those woods. From back-pocket notebook drafts to hardcover library display, I can take you on every step of your writing journey. My coaching program will provide you with training, accountability, and advice so you can polish and perfect your work.
Readers, if you hunger for thoughtful conversations about your favorite books, communities of like-minded book lovers, and high-level analyses of good old stories, please join me in some of my online classes. From Beowulf to Beckett, Shakespeare to Tom Stoppard, Chaucer to Charles Williams, many works of British, American, and European literature have found their way onto my syllabi and into lively discussions. You can hire me to teach an existing course at your institution, design a new one, or give a lecture. Sign up now for my upcoming Narnia class or buy the coursepack from my previous one.
Listeners, you've heard that "sticks and stones may break your bones, but words can never hurt you?" That is obviously false. Join me and my and podcast guests to think about the powers and limits of language. Are words magical? Can they actually effect change? Why do people weaponize them? Can we shift our use of public rhetoric? What have great authors believed about the relationship between writing and the divine? How can you become a more powerful and effective writer?
